Glam Greek Wedding at InterContinental Boston

The Elegant Aura team was honored to plan Tina and Mike’s September wedding at InterContinental Boston. The glamorous, black-tie affair incorporated Greek wedding traditions to pay homage to the couple’s heritage. With jaw-dropping floral installations and endless entertainment, it was an unforgettable celebration!

Tina and Mike have mutual friends, but it wasn’t until Mike messaged Tina on Instagram during the pandemic that they met, and their love story began. Both come from large Greek families that follow their culture’s wedding traditions. So, when they inquired about planning their wedding with Elegant Aura, we knew a memorable party was in store! They chose the perfect venue, InterContinental Boston, overlooking the harbor. Then, we helped to complete a team of trusted New England wedding vendors to help us bring the couple’s vision to life.

Luxury Floral Design for an InterContinental Boston Wedding

For Tina, the wedding flowers were a top priority. An installation of blooms suspended over the reception dance floor was a must-have! Ila Flowers delivered her vision with an extravagant installation of white wisteria flowers that hung from the ceiling and gave a feeling of romance. Meanwhile, tree centerpieces bursting with fragrant white blossoms graced the tablescapes with an air of luxury.

The terraced floral backdrop by Flower Walls Boston was another crowning feature of the reception space. Clusters of white flowers and trailing greenery, arranged artfully on the two levels, provided the perfect backdrop for photos.

Of course, the bride's wedding bouquet was also a priority, and the result was nothing short of perfect. Ila Flowers tightly composed the arrangement to reflect the formal elegance of the day and filled it with white orchids and roses, Tina’s favorite flowers. It coordinated perfectly with the ivory floral appliqués on the bodice of her gown!

Greek Wedding Traditions

In addition to the wedding flowers, incorporating Greek traditions into the day was another integral part of Tina and Mike’s vision. They exchanged their vows in a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony, joined at the altar by their 18-person wedding party, including their Koubara (maid of honor) and Koubarao (best man). Afterward, as they exited the church, their guests threw rice on the happy couple!

The reception incorporated more Greek traditions, including the “money dance.” As Tina and Mike danced, their guests showered them with dollar bills to help establish their new life together. The couple also chose a Greek pop song, “S’ Agapao” by Nikos Vertis, to play as they cut into their towering wedding cake.

Rose Kennedy Ballroom Reception at InterContinental Boston

Although the flowers were Tina’s top priority for the wedding day, Mike’s was the party! Accordingly, we pulled out all the stops to plan an evening of spectacular entertainment for the newlyweds and their guests in InterContinental Boston’s Rose Kennedy Ballroom.

The dance floor, which featured a custom monogram of the couple’s initials, was never empty, thanks to performances by a DJ and a Greek-American band. Tina and Mike’s first dance as a married couple was especially memorable, with sparklers that went off during their grand entrance and a fog machine. It looked like they were dancing on a cloud!

However, there was much more than dancing to enjoy at this wedding reception. A photo booth with a customized neon sign of the couple’s last name provided endless fun for their guests as they posed for Insta-worthy shots. In addition, guests could watch as live wedding painter Vesna Longton created a masterful depiction of the couple’s first dance. And what 2023 wedding would be complete without a champagne tower? Tina and Mike embraced the trend and managed not to spill a single drop!
